This is a fly I love to tie. It is a variation between a GUN by Garry Glen-Young and a Hitchhiker by Jozi Flies. It can be tied in variation of colours and sizes for trout and yellows as we all know the river season is upon us. I mainly tie them in black with pink or orange hotspot but did not have material at hand so I hope you enjoy this one which can be tied in size 14 down to 18. It may be fished as a point fly when euro nymphing or below a large dry fly.
Materials.
Turkey boits.
Uv flash dubbing in black.
Spanflex legs in black.
Uv flash.
Uv micro floss in chartreuse.
Small gold wire for ribbing.
HANNAK H450 Bl size 14 superb hook.
Jig countersunk 3.5mm bead in silver.
Tie in thread behind bead and advance halfway down the shank. Add spanflex around thread pinching it halfway and tie in towards bend of the hook and making sure it is on TOP of the hook shank.
Stop just before the bend of the hook and tie in wire ribbing opposite you and the biot on your side of the hook closest to you. Tie in wire and biot with tight turns and stop behind bead with flat and touching turns.
Add a small bit of super glue on shank and wrap biot forward with touching turns making sure you have even spaces between turns. Tie off behind bead.
Rib fly with wire with even wraps and tie off behind bead. (This is not a must- just for extra security for biot.)
Tie in micro floss on top of shank and Uv flashabu on top of that and mark flash with black permanent marker.
At this stage I tie in some fine dubbing though not a lot and tie in legs on top of that so the legs have something to grip on.
Tie in two pieces of spanflex legs on each side and secure with a few tight wraps and half hitch to secure.
Dub the thorax with your black Uv dub and at this stage you can secure and space out your legs of the fly but not too much dubbing. Tie off with a half hitch and then whip finish. Cut your floss just short of thorax and cut legs to your liking.
It is all done now, and you can admire your work. Dream how the fish will munch the fly and tighten your line. Happy tying.
