Rhodes. The Wild Trout Association rivers were running high a month ago and the Kraai was quite discoloured. Then they dropped substantially during a hot dry period but good rains over the last couple of days (and possibly more to come) have cooled conditions down, refreshed the streams which are running well again and most stretches including the upper Kraai are looking good. There are plenty of trout around and of course the yellows have moved in for the spawning season in rivers like the Sterkspruit and Bok...

FEDERATION OF SOUTHERN AFRICAN FLYFISHERS

In 1985/1986, a group of flyfishers in the Eastern and Western Cape became very concerned about developments in the sport of flyfishing in the then Cape Province. It was clear that the Cape Department of Nature Conservation wanted to deregulate the Trout Fishing Ordinance but no consultation or discussion was held with flyfishing clubs or individuals. Concerned flyfishers met and the Federation of Southern African Flyfishers (FOSAF) was formed on 1 March 1986 at the Eagles Ridge Hotel, Stutterheim.

Flyfishing Reports

FOSAF encourages fly fishing for almost all fishes but focuses primarily on Trout, Yellowfish and Saltwater species. Our correspondents in key flyfishing areas in the country submit monthly reports on angling conditions for these groups of fishes.

FOSAF is concerned about the rampant pollution of our waterways as well as the legislation that government has introduced, or which is under consideration. FOSAF is either taking action directly or has joined forces with environmental NGO's and like-minded bodies to counter these threats to your fishing.
