In the 1880's the Cahill was created by a New York railroad worker called Daniel Cahill.
The Light Cahill is used to imitate the Heptageniidae family of Mayflies. It can be tied on
a wide range of hooks from a size 10 all the way down to a size 18.
It is normally fished with a long leader that is cast to rising fish and drifted over them.
This is one of my favourite patterns to tie and fish due to it imitating a good number of Mayfly species.
Although this is a Trout pattern and I have not fished this fly on the Vaal River myself I have spoken to people who confirm that they have had success with it for Yellowfish.
