FOSAF is especially grateful for the R10 000,00 donation received from the Dullstroom Fly Fishers Association this week which will be used in protecting the flyfishing community’s interests.
For example, it is only though FOSAF’s actions which included pursing the matter through the courts right up to the Constitutional Court that trout have not been listed as “invasive”. Such a listing would have been extremely damaging to the trout industry, the many trout hatcheries, the hundreds of fishing venues offering trout fishing and the thousands of flyfishers who fish for trout. Although the listing of trout as invasive has been suspended there are still many hours of costly negotiation ahead with the authorities before a solution is found. Similarly, FOSAF is in consultation with the authorities regarding the controversial draft Aquaculture Development Bill and the Wild Capture Freshwater Policy which has now been gazetted. Both pieces of legislation have the potential to be damaging to angler’s interests if not correctly implemented.
