Breede. There is still plenty of freshwater in the system but with the full moon this weekend there will be major tidal flows. The odd kob and grunter are coming out and there are always young leervis around but of course October is the prime kob month. Regarding leervis apart from the juveniles which tend to remain in the estuaries up to about 70 cm or roughly 7 years of age, the large migrants come down the coast from KZN and EC in November/December and enter the river mouths...

FEDERATION OF SOUTHERN AFRICAN FLYFISHERS

In 1985/1986, a group of flyfishers in the Eastern and Western Cape became very concerned about developments in the sport of flyfishing in the then Cape Province. It was clear that the Cape Department of Nature Conservation wanted to deregulate the Trout Fishing Ordinance but no consultation or discussion was held with flyfishing clubs or individuals. Concerned flyfishers met and the Federation of Southern African Flyfishers (FOSAF) was formed on 1 March 1986 at the Eagles Ridge Hotel, Stutterheim.

Flyfishing Reports

FOSAF encourages fly fishing for almost all fishes but focuses primarily on Trout, Yellowfish and Saltwater species. Our correspondents in key flyfishing areas in the country submit monthly reports on angling conditions for these groups of fishes.

FOSAF is concerned about the rampant pollution of our waterways as well as the legislation that government has introduced, or which is under consideration. FOSAF is either taking action directly or has joined forces with environmental NGO's and like-minded bodies to counter these threats to your fishing.
