Maclear. According to Dean Naude they had up to 60ml rain over the weekend and the Big Pot and Mooi came down in spate, but they have cleared again and are fishable. Dean also mentioned that they did not see much spawning activity in the streams over winter which is strange but at the same time it is a blessing if one’s rivers tend to be overpopulated with small fish. Some good-sized fish have come out of the club managed dams and Jack Avni’s truck will be arriving from Underberg this week to stock the lower dams with rainbows while they have booked brown trout fingerlings from the Hogsback hatchery for stocking the upper dams in December...

FEDERATION OF SOUTHERN AFRICAN FLYFISHERS

In 1985/1986, a group of flyfishers in the Eastern and Western Cape became very concerned about developments in the sport of flyfishing in the then Cape Province. It was clear that the Cape Department of Nature Conservation wanted to deregulate the Trout Fishing Ordinance but no consultation or discussion was held with flyfishing clubs or individuals. Concerned flyfishers met and the Federation of Southern African Flyfishers (FOSAF) was formed on 1 March 1986 at the Eagles Ridge Hotel, Stutterheim.

Flyfishing Reports

FOSAF encourages fly fishing for almost all fishes but focuses primarily on Trout, Yellowfish and Saltwater species. Our correspondents in key flyfishing areas in the country submit monthly reports on angling conditions for these groups of fishes.
