FOSAF NEWS - SAVE's newsletter September 2018

SAVE is disappointed with the pace of the Gauteng Premier’s intervention in the affairs of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).

There are no visible signs of the Implementation of the national/provincial government’s plan to restore functionality to the collapsed wastewater management system since is SAVE’s meeting with the Premier’s team on 13th July 2018. Raw sewage continues to gush into the Vaal River at various points from Vereeniging to the Vaal Barrage. When SAVE returns to court, it will seek the supplementation of ELM’s report by the action plan disclosed by the Premier, and a variation of the court order to incorporate relevant portions of this plan. Just as the municipal manager was ordered to ensure ELM’s compliance with the court order, so too will the relevant officials in the provincial and national governments be identified and made responsible for compliance with the varied court order.
