Description of issue:
The photo shows clear evidence of AMD in the Tweeloopies Spruit. This stream starts in the mining area and flows off the ridge to the north before joining the Bloubankspruit. The Bloubankspruit is an important tributary of the Crocodile River (Limpopo system) and has good populations of both smallscale and largescale yellowfish.

Current Issues:

  1. Proposed deproclamation of part of the Mabola Protected Environment
  2. Trout translocation project in the Western Cape by FOSAF and the CPS.
  3. Clanwilliam sandfish in trouble
  4. Fish lose sense of smell in polluted waters
  5. EUS: A threat to Africa’s aquatic ecosystems
  6. Illegal netting
  7. New fish disease (EUS) widespread in Southern Africa
  8. Proposed amendment to Coastal Management Act
  9. Update on the NEM:BA AIS Regulations
